Advantage Dental Community Care Overview

Our Purpose

The purpose of the Advantage Dental Community Team is to reduce oral health disparities by acting as an extension of the Primary Care Dentist in providing dental services in locations where community members are already receiving other social services, to improve access and improve the oral health of the community.

Our Goal

The goal of the program is to improve the oral health of Oregon communities by:

  • Engaging the community in actively addressing their oral health needs
  • Providing risk-based prevention and disease management dental services
  • Care Coordination services to assist in follow through to timely and appropriate care

Our Services

The Community Care Team provides dental services to 40,000+ community members at over 600 sites each year. Services include prevention and stabilization care, education, and teledentistry services.

Our Community Care Team

Each team member of the Community Care Team plays a pivotal role in achieving the fundamental aim of ensuring that Oregon’s community members who have unmet dental needs receive appropriate and timely care.

The Advantage Dental Outreach Team consists of:

  • Director of Integration and Community Programs
  • Community Care Managers and Expanded Practice Dental Hygienists (EPDHs)
    • An Expanded Practice Dental Hygienist is able to perform specific tasks for underserved populations without the supervision of a dentist. An EPDH is able to provide basic dental hygiene exams, sealants, periodontal maintenance, adult prophylaxis, fluoride varnish application, and oral health instruction and education.

Advantage Dental has always been an advocate for community involvement. Changing the mindset of the parent, who thinks cavities are a normal part of childhood, is the focus of this grass roots movement to redefine the dental paradigm. Advantage Dental’s community outreach is focused on helping the professionals who work with pregnant women and parents with infants and toddlers to teach them about preventative care. Advantage Dental is committed to doing everything possible to ensure that no member of any community Advantage Dental serves suffers the ravages of tooth decay or dental pain that inhibits their daily life.

    • Multiple pre-k programs, including Head Start and Preschool Promise
    • Woman, infants and children (WIC) programs

    • Public health departments
